Zirconium Crowns

Durable, natural-looking full-coverage crowns.

A zirconium crown is a full-coverage restoration made from zirconia, a strong ceramic that can be layered for a natural appearance. It covers the entire visible part of a tooth that is damaged, weakened or heavily filled.

Treatment overview

Zirconia combines high strength with good light transmission, which makes it suitable for both back teeth, where chewing forces are high, and front teeth, where appearance matters most.

Common purposes

  • Protecting a weakened or root-canal-treated tooth
  • Restoring a broken or heavily filled tooth
  • Improving the colour and shape of a tooth

Who may be suitable?

  • Adults with teeth too damaged for a filling or veneer
  • People with healthy gums or gums treated beforehand
  • Those without uncontrolled teeth grinding, or protected with a night guard
  • People able to maintain good oral hygiene around the crown

Suitability is always decided by a specialist after reviewing your health and examining you.

Treatment process

  1. 01

    Before treatment

You share photos and any recent X-rays. In the clinic the tooth is examined, imaging is taken if needed, and the shade and shape are planned with you.

  2. 02

    Treatment day

The tooth is prepared under local anaesthesia and an impression or digital scan is taken. A temporary crown protects the tooth while the laboratory makes the final crown.

  3. 03

    After treatment

Mild sensitivity and gum tenderness are common while wearing the temporary. The final crown is tried in, checked for bite and fit, and cemented at the next appointment.

  4. 04

    Follow-up

Regular check-ups and hygiene appointments monitor the crown and the gum around it. A night guard is advised if you grind your teeth.

Expectations & recovery

01

Normal eating usually resumes once the final crown is cemented.

02

Temporary sensitivity typically settles within days to weeks.

03

The gum edge around the crown needs careful daily cleaning.

Results and recovery vary from person to person. No outcome can be guaranteed.
