Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Removing loose abdominal skin and tightening the muscles.

Abdominoplasty removes excess skin and fat from the lower abdomen and, when needed, repairs separated abdominal muscles (diastasis recti). A full tummy tuck usually involves repositioning the navel; a mini tummy tuck treats only the area below it.

Treatment overview

It is not a weight-loss operation. It is generally considered once weight has been stable for some time and future pregnancies are not planned.

Common purposes

  • Loose, overhanging abdominal skin
  • Separated abdominal muscles after pregnancy
  • Skin excess after significant weight loss
  • Stretch marks located on the skin that will be removed

Who may be suitable?

  • Adults at a stable weight close to their goal
  • People who do not plan further pregnancies
  • Non-smokers, or those able to stop for the advised period
  • People in good general health

Suitability is always decided by a specialist after reviewing your health and examining you.

Treatment process

  1. 01

    Before treatment

You share photos and your weight history. Blood tests and an anaesthesia assessment are carried out, and the incision length and muscle repair are decided after examination.

  2. 02

    Treatment day

Surgery is performed under general anaesthesia. A low horizontal incision is made, usually hidden within underwear lines; skin and fat are removed and the muscles tightened if required.

  3. 03

    After treatment

You will usually walk with a slightly bent posture in the first days. Compression garments are worn and drains may be used for a short time.

  4. 04

    Follow-up

Wound and drain checks take place before you fly home. Scar care and activity guidance continue remotely.

Expectations & recovery

01

Gentle walking is encouraged early to support circulation.

02

Heavy lifting and core exercise are restricted for several weeks.

03

The scar matures over 12 months or more and its final appearance varies.

Results and recovery vary from person to person. No outcome can be guaranteed.
